Certified translation, also called sworn or official translation, is a type of translation carried out by a sworn expert-translator authorised by a Court of Appeal in France or, under certain conditions, by a sworn translator authorised by a High Court according to the country of destination of the certified document.
Certified translation concerns legal and statutory documents; it is intended for government authorities and calls for tenders, and may be necessary for obtaining visas or for other steps; when establishing a presence in foreign markets for example.
No one can claim to be a sworn translator unless he or she is appointed to this position by the Commission of the Court of Appeal or by the Public Prosecutor. This translator, who is particularly qualified in the legal field, has been officially sworn in and his or her certification has been authorised in the French courts and other authorities.

Certified translations intended for a foreign country
To respond to a call for tenders or to perform an administrative procedure intended for a foreign country, certain certifications must be carried out. Even if the translation is carried out by a sworn translator from the country or according to the standards of the country of destination, it is necessary to have the translation legalised by a Chamber of Commerce, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or by a consulate, and sometimes even to affix an apostille certificate according to the Hague Convention.

You will need a sworn (certified) translation for most legal procedures in another language (setting up a business abroad, recognition of a marriage certificate, etc.).
All official documents can be translated and certified: identity papers, driving licences, contracts, certificates, diplomas, birth certificates, extracts from criminal records, etc.
The time taken for certified translations is often longer than for a standard translation. Times also vary depending on the subject matter and the number of words. Send us your document and we will get back to you with a quote, which will include the cost and the turnaround time.
The price of a certified translation varies according to a number of criteria: the number of words, the language combination (translating an official document from French into English will not cost the same as from English into Arabic), the nature of the text and the level of difficulty, or the desired deadline.
